I started Intrinsic Motion Pilates because I’m passionate about making specialised, one-on-one clinical Pilates available to those who need it, not just those that can afford it.

My aim is to help my clients incorporate Pilates into their everyday lives, so that every movement throughout their day is balanced, efficient, and pain-free, ultimately leading to better health, longevity, and happiness.

PILATES – What is it?

Joseph Pilates had a vision – that a systematic approach to physical and mental mastery would raise the individual to a place of higher personal awareness, positively impacting the world and reducing human suffering.

He spent a lifetime curating and refining his methodology for conditioning the body and mind, drawing influence from his experience as a professional circus tumbler, boxer, and self-defense instructor, and later as an orderly working alongside medical professionals in an internment camp during the war, rehabilitating injured soldiers.

Today, the method continues to develop as new medical research shapes our understanding of the human body and mind, but remains founded on the original Pilates Principles of Breath, Concentration, Centering, Control, Precision and Flow.

REASONS for practising :

The mind is the body and the body is the mind.  The two are inextricably linked.  Mindful, regular practise of the Pilates Method will help you build a bridge between the two so you can move through life with greater freedom, ease, and joy.

About Sally

I started practising Pilates in my early 20s to address a chronic back injury I’d developed from playing hockey, netball and gymnastics. With daily practice, I managed to completely rehabilitate, and developed a true passion for the method.

Inspired to help others alleviate pain and imbalance in their bodies, I trained as an instructor with the internationally-recognised Body Arts and Science International (CTTC) in 2013, and have since been teaching Pilates at some of Melbourne’s top boutique studios.

Also a professional jazz musician, I’ve found the Pilates method to be the best way of managing the physical demands of long hours of practise and performance. I particularly enjoy working with musicians to help them regain balance and improve postural alignment.

My special interest areas are chronic pain, low back pain and Pilates for runners. As a music teacher of many years, I bring patience and creativity to my Pilates instructing.

I’m passionate about sustainability, and have set up my Preston studio to minimise the environmental footprint through the use of sustainably sourced equipment and a zero waste approach.

Aside from pilates and music, I love cycling, frisbee, and being part of the local Preston community.

About the studio

The Studio offers one-on-one and one-on-two Pilates classes.  We like working this way rather than the large classes you might see elsewhere because it allows close attention to detail from both instructor and student, so that every single movement counts.  Individual instruction means you get the full benefit of practicing Pilates, and also avoid injury.

We are committed

To making sure price is not prohibitive – see our pricing section to find out more about our pricing philosophy.

The studio is fully equipped including Reformers, Trapeze Table, and Pilates Wunda chair, plus a wide range of small equipment and props.  Everything has been sustainably sourced, and in cases that sustainable sources aren’t yet available, we’re working on how we can do this in the future.

Located

We are located on Gilbert Rd, just a small block north of Bell St in Preston.

The studio is a welcoming space where you can be yourself.  Whatever your age, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, education level, or athletic ability, you are welcome here. We’ll identify and work with your strengths and weaknesses to tailor a balanced program for your needs, with a big focus on body positivity!

The phrase we hear most often after a session at the studio is “I always feel better after Pilates!”
